The frontier has always that dangerous mysterious place that’s been the setting for many great Westerns. Space now seems to be next big unknown frontier and today Vertigo Releasing release the UK Trailer for indie sci-fi western Settlers. And boy it’s certainly the wild wild west out there, especially on Mars!
The film stars Sofia Boutella and Jonny Lee Miller star as the heads of the struggling family with Brooklynn Prince playing their daughter. We follow a family from Earth clinging to hope for a better life, living on a remote homestead on the Martian frontier. But will life be any better on Mars?
The film marks a directorial feature for Wyatt Rockefeller who to now has worked as a producer. We do like what we see with Prospect, with a big slice of the classic western genre tropes. The reviews so far have been very good however out only concern with this does the trailer show off a little too much?
Following an ecological disaster on Earth, a family eke out an existence on a desolate Martian homestead. Reza (Jonny Lee Miller) and his wife Ilsa (Sofia Boutella), do their best to protect nine-year-old daughter Remmy (Brooklynn Prince) from the dangers of the surrounding landscape. But when hostile outsiders appear in the nearby hills, Remmy becomes aware of the disturbing reality of her situation, that her parents have shielded her from all this time. She is taken hostage by the outsider, Jerry (Ismael Cruz Córdova), and as time goes by, the probability of escape for Remmy (now played by Nell Tiger Free) grows increasingly remote, while Jerry’s intentions grow more and more sinister.
The film also stars Nell Tiger Free, Ismael Cruz Cordova, and Natalie Walsh.
Settlers will be released in the UK and Ireland in cinemas and on Digital Platforms from 30th August.
