Disney+ Review – Loki Episode 4

Contains spoilers.

There are twists and turns aplenty in episode 4 of Loki as the Asgardian finds himself in trouble (again).

Picking up from where we left off last week, Loki and Sylvie are stuck on Lamentis as the world ends around them – meanwhile, Mobius (yay he’s back!) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna continue to search for the two variants. An intimate and tender moment between Loki and Sylvie causes a unique nexus event (hence the title of this episode being named “The Nexus Event”) and the TVA are able to find them and bring them in. The rest of the episode focuses on the TVA and how their secrets are being revealed.

Honestly, this is has been my favourite episode yet – despite not liking certain ways the plot is going. This is the first episode that surprised me and actually made me really care about what is actually going on with these Time Lords – I mean, Time-Keepers.

Mobius was once again a highlight for me and his interactions with Loki are really excellent, the way Hiddleston and Wilson are playing of each other – I just love it. Mbatha-Raw also surprised me this episode. I knew she was a fantastic actor but so far had felt her talents were being under-utilised. However, the shift in her character this episode and the way she played it excelled. I was so intrigued. Additionally, the cameo of Jaimie Alexander as Sif in Loki’s time-loop/torture chambers was highly amusing.

Now, I’m still not keen on this romance story between Loki and Sylvie – it feels forced and weird, especially this early on in the series (I know we are half-way through but he only really met her last episode, it’s weirdly rushed). Part of me knows it makes sense that the person Loki would fall in love with would be himself still the way they’re going about it feels clunky.

So my expectations and enjoyment of Loki has for sure risen after this episode and I’m looking forward to next week – especially after that post-credit scene. Seems like Loki is gonna go somewhere we didn’t expect.
