Filmmaker Travis Knight who made his live action feature debut with Bumblebee, Netflix looks like be his next live action destination. Set to direct Vampire thriller, Uprising for the streaming channel.
The film will be based on Raymond Villareal‘s book A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising. Set after a global viral outbreak turns people into vampires and follows CIA agent Lauren Webb, who works against the clock to uncover the truth behind a growing uprising that threatens to wipe out humanity.
It seems this film project has been in development for a while now produced by Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps. Levy was onboard to produce the feature when it was originally at Fox. However like many film projects Netflix now have it in a deal they did with Fox. Emily Morris will now oversee it for 21 Laps though the report does say Levy is still involved with Dan Cohen. Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) is also onboard penning the script which has also passed several different hands (Jay Basu, JD Payne and Patrick McKay).
Knight will be known more for being the CEO of Laika, the animation studio brought us Coraline as well as Kubo And The Two Strings. When he was picked as the director of the Transformers spin-off it certainly opened a few eyes and he surprised many at how popular and well reviewed Bumblebee turned out. Probably the first since the original Transformers film, if not better due to it’s family friendly tone.
With the success of that film and how he handled the film, many have been curious to see what he was set to direct next. For a while that project was going to be the Uncharted film, now it’s Uprising. We don’t know much about this, but we expect this might be his first 15 rated film.
