After 17 years broadcasting in the UK, Fox UK is set to close in June.
This news comes with no surprise with Disney buying Fox a few years back. This will mean, those Fox shows will need a new home like The Walking Dead. That new home will be Disney+ and Disney+ Star brand.
For nearly two decades subscribers to Sky and Virgin Media have had access to the channels shows. Now they’ll need a subscription to the House Of Mouse streaming channel.
This news will frustrate some of The Walking Dead fans, as they wait for the first part of Season 11. This new season being the final season which is set to arrive in the UK on Monday 23rd August, day after the US premiere.
From 2nd July seasons 1 through to 10 will be available on Star, giving anyone a chance to catch up.
Deadline unveiled the news with a spokesman from Disney saying “On 30th June the FOX channel in the UK will close. Many titles will become available on Star on Disney+ and will be announced in the near future. We appreciate the support of our UK fans and can’t wait to keep sharing the best stories with you.
Star on Disney+ serves as the home of movies and television from Disney’s creative studios, including Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions and 20th Century Studios.”
The Walking Dead started in 2010 fast becoming one of the biggest Television shows in the world. Over the years the popularity has dipped however through those years (including ourselves) it has always had a loyal fanbase who will watch the show until the end. The show starred Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and followed their lives as they attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse. Lincoln left the show a couple of seasons ago, however rumours a rife that Rick Grimes may return sometime in the final season.
