BFI Release Second UK Trailer For Aleem Khan’s After Love

As we wait patiently for the doors of our local cinema to finally reopen, what can we look forward to watching? BFI have one suggestion the directorial feature debut Aleem Khan‘s After Love.

Late last year the UK drama made it’s world premiere at BFI London Film Festival to critical acclaim. Now it’s festival’s run is over BFI are focused in getting the powerful film out to the general public and released a new second UK Trailer.

The film stars Bafta nominated Joanna Scanlan as 60 something Mary Hussein (Scanlan) who converted to Islam whose husband unexpectedly dies. Now a widow she discover her husband had a secret life 21 one miles away in Calais France. She heads over to France to learn more leaving her identity shattered as she attempts to understand.

In AFTER LOVE, Mary Hussain (Joanna Scanlan), who converted to Islam when she married and is now in her early 60s, lives quietly with her husband Ahmed. Following his unexpected death, she suddenly finds herself a widow. A day after the burial, she discovers that Ahmed had a secret life just twenty-one miles away from their Dover home, across the Channel in Calais. The shocking discovery compels her to go there to find out more, and as she grapples with her shattered sense of identity, her search for understanding has surprising consequences.

The film also stars French actor Nathalie Richard (Never Let Me Go, Hidden, Jeune et Jolie) and newcomer Talid Ariss in his first major English language role.

After Love has a new UK and Irish release date of 4th June in cinemas.
