Kaleidoscope Entertainment have released the UK Trailer for Australian rom-com Ellie & Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt).

The film is described as a heartfelt and hilarious queer teen rom-com directed by writer-director Monica Zanetti, whose first feature film was the critically acclaimed Skin Deep. Ellie & Abbie itself already winning over audiences at film festivals all over the world including the Audience Award for best narrative at Mardi Gras 2020.

The film is a fresh take on the ‘coming of age, first love story’ and alongside it a nod to the LGBTQI+ activist history in Australia; celebrating the massive inroads to equality made over time. Fifty percent of the cast are LGBTQI+

For this one Sophie Hawkshaw and Zoe Terajes play school friends Ellie and Abbie. Ellie has an serious crush on Abbie however she is too nervous to ask her out, she lets slip of her crush and that Zoe is gay to her mum. Things get crazier when her deceased aunt returns from the dead!

School captain Ellie (Sophie Hawkshaw) has a serious crush on her classmate Abbie (Zoe Terakes), and is worrying over inviting her to the Year 12 formal. When Ellie accidentally spills the beans to her mum (Marta Dusseldorp) and outs herself in the process, things start to get complicated and a little bit spooky. Enter her deceased aunt Tara (Julia Billington), a lesbian activist from the ‘80s who returns from the dead to act as a kind of fairy godmother to Ellie, guiding her through the trials and tribulations of her first love.

The cast also  includes Sophie Hawkshaw (Puberty Blues, Riz), Julia Billington (Home & Away, Janet King) and Marta Dusseldorp. Rachel House (Hunt for The Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok) rounds out the cast  .

Ellie & Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt) is set for an UK cinema release from 19th March.
