Short Sunday Theatre – Decommissioned

We don’t even have to mention the name of that certain sci-fi horror that quoted ‘no one can hear you scream in space‘, it’s an ultimate classic horror ins pace. In this weeks Sunday Short Theatre we may not be able to offer you something classic or cult statue, Decommissioned looks equally terrifying.

This terrific short comes from Australian filmmaker Josh Tanner (Perception Pictures). He directed a number of fantastic shorts Reverse, The Landing, The Rizzle, this might just be our favourite. A film inspired by true events which certainly give us the heevie jeevies!

In 2006, an old Russian spacesuit called Suitsat was decommissioned which ended up becoming a satellite which was launched into space. This unnerving film is the story of happened, or may have happened.

Tanner and co-writer Jade van der Lei were ‘creeped’ out when their minds orbited Earth playing on that ‘what if’ notion did happen and those voices that were picked up on shortwave .

Fantastic VFX work here with the Unreal Engine technology they used in The Mandalorian, with a mix of old school techniques. With another fantastic work from Tanner, how long will it be until Josh Tanner takes the step up into feature films. Take a look might be some of the best 6 minutes you watch…

An astronaut encounters a terrifying anomaly approaching the International Space Station.

Joey Viera stars as Commander Diaz with David Normand as the ‘voice of Houston.’
