The indie drama was released last year Stateside as Tuscaloosa, named after the town in Alabama the film is set in. Based on the book by W. Glasgow Phillips, set in 1972 starring Devon Bostick as Billy a recent graduate. He spends the summer helping out at his father’s asylum and falls in love with a patient Virginia (Natalia Dyer). At the same time he becomes involved in the civil rights movement with his best friend protesting against the elite whom Billy’s father is part of.
Life is never simple it’s complicated, we must adapt to be happy. The Stranger Things star is certainly keeping herself busy as she waits for Season 4. From a sex starved teen to a young woman with metal illness, this looks a solid film…
A beautiful yet relevant romance about love and diversity in an allegory of America today, starring Stranger Thing’s Natalia Dyer.
1972. War protests and racial tension sizzle in the late summer heat of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Recent college grad Billy (Devon Bostick) spends the summer working on the grounds of an asylum run by his psychiatrist father (Tate Donovan). As Billy falls for Virginia (Natalia Dyer), a patient at his father’s institute, his best friend Nigel (Marchánt Davis) becomes involved with a radical civil rights activist against Tuscaloosa’s power elite – including Billy’s father.
Summer of ’72 is a film with youthful romance and overtones of social unrest that tackle the difficult topics that are as relevant in today’s world as they were in 1972.
The film also stars Marchánt Davis, Tate Donovan, Ella Rae Peck, Nathan Phillips, Birgundi Baker and YG.
Summer Of ’72 will be released in the UK and Ireland from 1st February on all Digital platforms.
