Wil Wheaton Will Be Your Friend In Rent-A-Pal UK Trailer

Are you lonely? Wil Wheaton will be your friend in the disturbing UK Trailer for indie horror Rent-A-Pal. He will listen to you, he understands you!

Following its launch at Grimmfest (where it won the “Best Screenplay” award) and Sitges last week, Lightbulb Film Distribution are now  pushing ahead with it’s UK release.

The film is a throwback VHS Horror set in 1990. David is a lonely man who is looking for friendship and finds an old VHS Tape called ‘Rent-A-Pal’. Quickly the video is hosted by Andy who offers everything David desires, only to discover it offers more than he can afford.

This is the directorial feature debut for Jon Stevenson who also wrote the script. This is a pre-digital era based film and though the video tape idea sounds surreal it  wasn’t uncommon. The director came across an old tape called ‘Rent A Friend‘  during a web search, which  offered the viewer everything from advice to friendship.  This looks like a Videodrome type gorefest !

Set in 1990, a lonely bachelor named David (Brian Landis Folkins) searches for an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of caring for his ageing mother (Kathleen Brady). Whilst seeking a partner through a video dating service, he discovers a strange VHS tape called Rent-A-Pal. Hosted by the charming and charismatic Andy (Wil Wheaton – Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory, Stand By Me), the tape offers him much-needed friendship. But it comes at a cost.

The film also stars Brian Landis Folkins (Hoax), Kathleen Brady (Breaking Bad)and Amy Rutledge (Neighbour).

Rent-A-Pal will be released on Digital Download from 16th November, then on DVD from 11th January 2021.
