Released in the UK by Modern Films, LUXOR comes to cinemas/digital platforms from 6 November and is set against the backdrop of the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor, with Andrea Riseborough playing a doctor and British aid worker seeking respite after an overwhelming period spent working at a clinic in Ramtha on the Jordanian-Syrian border, where she specialised in treating victims wounded in the war in Syria. It’s also about a woman in her early 40s at a crossroads in her life, who re-encounters an old lover in Luxor. It’s really beautifully shot and restrained but with a layer of emotional turbulence too.
The film also stars Michael Landes, Shereen Reda, Ahmed Talaat, and Janie Aziz.
Luxor will be released by Modern Films in UK and Irish cinemas from 6th November. Zeina will also be the subject of the BFI’s monthly ‘Woman with a Movie Camera‘ special event series on 11th November.
