Watch The UK Trailer For The Father Starring Anthony Hopkins

The Summer maybe now saying farewell as Autumn says hello, Oscar buzz is starting. One of the films garnering the buzz as awards season approaches is Florian Zeller‘s drama The Father.

After making it’s world premiere away back in January at Sundance Film Festival, now it’s starting it’s theatrical promotion. Today Lionsgate Films have released the film’s UK (International) Trailer.

The film is based on the director’s play Le Père and stars Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. Hopkins plays out titular character an elderly man who believes his mind is playing tricks. He’s an highly independent man who clearly need the help from his family. However his daughter (Colman) has plans to move to Paris with her husband , she gets him help when it’s clear it’s her he needs.

It’s clear Sir Anthony’s character is suffering from dementia.  We will see the film from the sufferer’s point of view, possibly make the viewer question things. This will be a heartbreaking, but poignant film that will touch base with so many people. Myself included and with two Academy winners and fantastic support cast, this has a great chance in  been a contender.

In THE FATHER, Anthony Hopkins plays the eponymous role of a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman). Yet, such help has become essential following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner. As Anne’s father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

The film also stars Mark Gatiss, Rufus Sewell, Imogen Poots, and Olivia Williams.

The Father doesn’t have a confirmed UK or Irish release date. Lionsgate Films are saying they will release the film in 2021.
