Anya Taylor-Joy has been many things the past few years a witch, mutant, matchmaker. In her latest project The Queen’s Gambit she’s a troubled chess genius in a ‘man’s world’.
After getting a first look at images from the series last month, we finally get a look at the official Trailer. Regardless of her masterful talent for the game, she’s up against it for dominating in a male dominated world!
The series follows Beth Harmon, a young chess prodigy’s rise from an orphanage to the world stage. But genius comes with a cost.
The Trailer teases both Beth’s talents and her self destructive side. You wonder if the game of chess she plays , she just simply a pawn and every move she makes is her life choices? The narrative looks sharp as does things visually all thanks to Scott Frank who just happened to have written Logan! As ever Taylor-Joy looks great…
Based on the novel by Walter Tevis, the Netflix limited series drama THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT is a coming-of-age story that explores the true cost of genius. Abandoned and entrusted to a Kentucky orphanage in the late 1950s, a young Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy) discovers an astonishing talent for chess while developing an addiction to tranquilizers provided by the state as a sedative for the children. Haunted by her personal demons and fueled by a cocktail of narcotics and obsession, Beth transforms into an impressively skilled and glamorous outcast while determined to conquer the traditional boundaries established in the male-dominated world of competitive chess. The series is directed and co-written by two-time Academy Award nominee Scott Frank and executive produced by Frank, William Horberg and Allan Scott, who also co-created the series.
The series co-stars Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Moses Ingram, Harry Melling and Bill Camp. The series is directed by Scott Frank who directed Godless for Netflix and The Walk Among The Tombstones.
The Queen’s Gambit will launch globally on Netflix from 23rd October.
