One film we’ve been talking about a lot on The Peoples Movies is Natalie Erika James, the deeply unsettling psychological horror, Relic. Next month the film finally arrives in the UK and Ireland from next month, today Signature Entertainment release the film’s UK Trailer…Everything decays!

The film promises to give a heartbreaking allegorical effects of dementia. Seen through the eyes of three generations of women (Robyn Nevin, Emily Mortimer, Bella Heathcote). When the mother and daughter rush to the decaying home of Mother/Grandmother disappears, she suddenly returns home. Where did she go and not all what it seems, is something controlling her?

2020 has certainly turning out the year female filmmakers make their stamp on Horror.  Saint Maud, Amulet, Candyman, Swallow, and off course Relic. What better time to be a fan of horror genre!

When elderly mother Edna (Robyn Nevin, The Matrix, Top of the Lake), inexplicably vanishes, her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer, Mary Poppins the Returns, The Party & Shutter Island) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote, The Neon Demon) rush to their family’s decaying country home, finding clues of her increasing dementia scattered around the house in her absence. After Edna returns just as mysteriously as she disappeared, Kay’s concern that her mother seems unwilling or unable to say where she’s been clashes with Sam’s unabashed enthusiasm to have her grandma back. As Edna’s behaviour turns increasingly volatile, both begin to sense that an insidious presence in the house might be taking control of her.

The film also stars Chris Bunton, and Steve Rodgers.

Relic will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas from 30th October. Today BFI London Film Festival also announced it’s 2020 line up and Relic is part of the Digital programme available from 9th-12th October on the BFI Player.
