It seems Martin Scorsese is a happy chappie with Apple TV+. Recently announced his next film The Killers Of The Moon will be with the channel. Now it seems the relationship will last longer than that film.
Deadline once again broke the news on this story that the legendary filmmaker has signed a ‘first look deal’ with Apple. The deal means his production company, Sikelia Productions, to produce and direct films for the channel.
After the trouble the director had with The Irishman due to the budget size, having a settled home for Scorsese future projects was a must. Netflix gave his last film that home but it seems the budget has stopped the streaming channel working on The Killers Of The Flower Moon. We know Scorsese’s recent films are not short and Paramount Pictures said when making The Wolf Of Wall Street it had to be under 3 hours, it was 2 hours 59 minutes.
The Killers Of The Flower Moon is set to go into production early 2021 which has also a hefty budget. the film revolves around the Osage Nation who were granted rights to the oil found in their lands. Suddenly as Oil tycoons harvested the oil people started to get murdered including those investigating. One of the first major investigations done by the FBI. Which turned into one of America’s most chilling murder sprees ever. Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert DeNiro are set to star in this one.
In today’s climate interesting to see there’s still distributors willing still to pay for the big budgets even if the audience might be limited. We are expecting The Killers Of The Flower Moon to get some sort of cinematic release like the Irishman. Will be interesting to see what projects will come Martin Scorsese way too as he is a fan of supporting filmmakers of all levels. Even if many studios /distributors don’t take risks these days, we’re talking about Martin Scorsese the man who brought us Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino and The Departed.
