Kraven The Hunter Movie, Sony Want J.C Chandor To Direct?

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, majority of the eyes are focused on what Marvel is doing at Disney. Over at Sony, their own MCU or Spider-Verse is slowly building into an interesting universe which is set to get even bigger. During the night Deadline broke the news that Sony Pictures are set to release Kraven The Hunter movie with J.C Chandor directing.

The talk of one of Spider-Man’s getting his own movie has been around for a few years now. However with all the Sony/Marvel Spats about Spider-Man and other events it seemed to been forgotten about.

So who is Kraven? Sergei Nikolaevich Kravinoff is a son of an Russian Aristocrat who fled Russia during the 1917 Revolution.  He is the half brother of  Spider-man’s  other formidable villain the Chameleon, Kraven became one of the webcrawler’s nemesis when he got bored big game hunting. Turning his focus on Spidey as his biggest ‘prize’. Kraven is also an founding  member of The Sinister Six which also included Dr.Octopus, Electro, Mysterio, Vulture, The Sandman. He would make his comic book debut in The Amazing Spiderman Issue 15 which was released in August, 1964.

Sony Pictures is certainly building an intriguing universe which seems to be more around Spider-Man’s ‘enemies’ . Many of those characters in the world that you could consider ‘antiheroes’ as much as villains. Next to the next Spider-Man chapter, there is also Morbius starring Jared Leto, Venom 2 which will include Carnage. Marc Guggenheim also has his Jackpot movie which is also set in Spider-Verse.

This news comes off the back of the untitled Marvel  Sony Pictures project which Olivia Wilde is set to direct. It’s expected that film will be an all female superhero film with some gossip saying it might be Spider Woman.

Chandor directed the likes of A Most Violent Year, Margin Call, All Is Lost and more recently Netflix’s Triple Frontier. There’s not more details known at this stage apart from  Richard Wenk (The Equalizer) wrote a script. the  report also says Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penning a new script, Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad will produce.

Sony Pictures haven’t exactly confirmed this news and if it’s true this will be Chandor’s first big budget film. Who will play Kraven himself has sparked a lot of gossip with Michael Shannon a favourite.
