The Crown has it’s Princess Diana and that accolade will go to Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki. The popular Netflix series recently announced there will be Two more seasons (five and six) and via their Twitter account yesterday announced the actress new role
Debicki also made an statement on her role “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
She will be taking over from Emma Corrin who played Lady Diana Spencer aka Princess Of Wales in Season Four.
The actress will be known for her role in the 2016 BBC Drama The Night Manager alongside Tom Hiddleston and The Crown star Olivia Colman. Film fans will recognise her a little more as she’s appeared in The Great Gatsby, Steve McQueen’s Widows and The Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2. She is also in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming thriller Tenet.
Seasons Five and Six are expected to lead up to the divorce of Princess Diana from Prince Charles. It will also cover her tragic death in 1997 which drove the Royal Family into a deep crisis. Potentially the deaths of The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret along with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee which all happened in 2002 maybe included.
Last week it was also announced that Imelda Staunton will take over from Olivia Colman as the Queen. Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret previously played by Helena Boham Carter. Jonathan Pryce will play The Duke Of Edinburgh Prince Phillip in the final two season played previously by Tobias Menzies.
