Watch The Trailer For Jonathan Glazer’s Strasbourg 1518

I have to admit we don’t pay much attention to a lot of shows or films BBC showcase, until now. When you add Jonathan Glazer to the fold add a score by Micah Levi, we’re sold . Strasbourg 1518 is that film and today BBC have shared the film’s Trailer, get ready to dance!

Seven years after the acclaimed British filmmaker’s visually seductive Under The Skin, there’s been no full length feature. Last year He releases the chilling Short The Fall (watch here on BBC iPlayer), now he has his second short film.

The actual short film was created during the early days of Lockdown. The film is inspired by the an ‘mania’ that swept through Strasbourg France 500 years ago which people danced to stay alive.  The dancers in this film are all part of the professional dance group Sadler’s Wells, with the dancers all performing in their own homes. The style, tome or energy of the dancing varies, most of all visually  fantastic.

Chilling stuff but what exactly what the premise is, we actually don’t care. It’ s a Jonathan Glazer film!

Inspired by a powerful involuntary mania which took hold of citizens in the city of Strasbourg just over 500 years ago, STRASBOURG 1518 is a collaboration in isolation with some of the greatest dancers working today.

STRASBOURG 1518 was co-commissioned by Artangel and Sadler’s Wells and produced by Academy Films for BBC Films and BBC Arts. The film is part of BBC Arts Culture In Quarantine; bringing the arts into the homes of the nation at a time of national lockdown.

World Premiere of Strasbourg 1518 will be on BBC Two and iPlayer at 10pm, Monday 20 July.
