In just over eight days time IFC Films will release Natalie Erika James horror drama Relic. In some last minute promotion they have released a couple of New TV Spots.
In Relic, we find three generations of women (Robyn Nevin, Emily Mortimer, Bella Heathcote). When the matriarch (Nevin) of the family goes missing her daughter and granddaughter (Mortimer, Heathcoate) attempt to find her. Only to find she returned, is something controlling her?
The new spots don’t really reveal any new footage. What they do is give us a taster of atmosphere, the creepiness and that Gran is the main focus of the film. This maybe a horror but it’s tackling dementia, neurological disease I would not wish on anyone.
When elderly mother Edna (Robyn Nevin) inexplicably vanishes, her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) rush to their family’s decaying country home, finding clues of her increasing dementia scattered around the house in her absence. After Edna returns just as mysteriously as she disappeared, Kay’s concern that her mother seems unwilling or unable to say where she’s been clashes with Sam’s unabashed enthusiasm to have her grandma back. As Edna’s behavior turns increasingly volatile, both begin to sense that an insidious presence in the house might be taking control of her. With RELIC, first-time writer/director Natalie Erika James crafts an unforgettable new spin on the haunted-house movie.
The film also stars Chris Bunton, and Steve Rodgers.
Relic. The film is still for limited U.S Cinema/VOD release from 10th July. As for who and when will release the film in the UK and Ireland, we still don’t know yet.
