Shazam! Director Returns To Horror Genre

Talented filmmaker David F. Sandberg is set to film The Culling – a hair-rising movie that resembles legendary The Exorcist.

Swedish director David F. Sandberg received a lot of attention last year thanks to his work on the successful (and perhaps the funniest) DC movie Shazam!. A reliable hit-maker now has another promising project in his pocket. Sandberg was hired by Lionsgate to shoot The Culling, a demonic horror penned by pretty much unknown Stephen Herman. The plot however sounds very interesting and considering David’s plentiful experience with given genre, the horror fans certainly have something to look forward to.

We shall remind you that before getting his job at the DC Films, Sandberg earned himself a reputation as a skilful director of mysterious horror movies. For example, Lights Out with Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello or Annabelle 2 (even some parts of Shazam! prove that David knows how to make us scared).

The Culling should focus on a troubled priest who retires to a remote cottage in the woods and later on is forced to fight an evil demon who terrorised his family when he was a kid. “Love this script by Stephen Herman and its take on how demons work,” tweeted Sandberg about his upcoming project. “So surreal. Such an honor!!” replied the screenwriter. Should we then prepare for the modern variation on The Exorcist?

Unfortunately, so far it seems that we won’t see this new David’s flick before 2023 as the filmmaker is committed to make Shazam! sequel first and preparations for the DC blockbuster were delayed due ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to the latest news, the second Shazam! is suppose to be released on 4 November 2022.
