Nearly 40 years after Sam Raimi made the cult horror Evil Dead another film is on the cards. This news we have actually know for a little while now, and it looks like taken some big steps towards to keep the legacy running a little longer.
Ash Williams himself Bruce Campbell recently spoke to Empire Magazine revealing he is involved in the film’s development with Raimi. He also revealed they have chosen the director they want to direct the new film and that director will be Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin.
Cronin made his name in his feature debut A Hole In The Ground starring Seána Kerslake. Campbell was a big fan and stated he hand picked the director to take us back into Necronomicon once again.
He also revealed the film’s name will be Evil Dead Now.
“We’re just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead. It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam (Raimi, Evil Dead creator, director and producer) handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole in the Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”
Cronin is no stranger to Raimi or Campbell as he directed one of the segments on Raimi’s Quibi horror Anthology, 50 States Of Fright.
“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating. You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic…We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”
If your expecting Ash or even Jane Levy‘s Mia, you will be disappointed, expect a new character. Who he or she will be, that will be revealed soon!
