After opening this year’s Glasgow Film Festival back in February, Picturehouse Entertainment announce Alice Winocour’s Proxima will be released in July.
Following on from its festival run which included Toronto, Macao and San Sebastian festivals. They will bringing back cinema with the theatrical release of the exceptional independent film,on 10th July.This follows the news that Picturehouse and Cineworld cinemas are confirmed to reopen from the 10 July. Off course things can change like the click of Thanos fingers, all subject to government guidelines.
The film was originally mean’t to have been released in Uk and Irish Cinemas last month.
Eva Green (Casino Royale, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children), gives a career best performance in this epic and emotionally charged new drama from acclaimed director Alice Winocour. The story follows Sarah (Green), a French astronaut training at the European Space Agency in Cologne. The only woman in the arduous training programme, she has been chosen to be part of the crew of a year-long space mission called ‘Proxima’. Putting enormous strain on her relationship with her seven-year-old daughter Stella (Zélie Boulant), the training begins to take its toll on them both as the life-changing launch looms ever closer.
The film features stunning performances from the entire cast, including Matt Dillon (Crash), Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann), Aleksey Fateev (Loveless) and newcomer Zélie Boulant, Winocour’s new film is a stunningly cinematic experience which will take audiences on a gripping, emotional and life-affirming journey, and boasts a stirring score from world-renowned composer and musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Proxima will be released in the UK and Ireland from Friday 10th July.
