It was only last week Disney decided to move Atremis Fowl to their new Streaming service Disney+. The company would also reschedule their main slate all down to Covid-19 Pandemic. The Artemis Fowl not getting a cinematic release left many asking the question about the future of the cinematic question.
In a recent interview with Barrons Disney’s Bob Iger hinted that a few more cinema bound Disney films will head to Disney+. “In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+, but for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar.”
The former CEO of Disney didn’t go as far and name the films he’s expecting to move. He does state that the studio still hopes to give it’s tentpole films a cinematic release. So don’t expect the likes of Black Widow, Mulan going directing to streaming. Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt release was delayed 1 year, highlighting how important the film is to the studio.
The Disney tentpoles are the ones more likely to get the cinema release. We now know the mammoth size of films Disney have lined up for release could the Disney+ bound films be from Searchlight films or 20th Century Studio Films? Potentially to Hulu (which apparently will be available in UK later this year or 2021 for the first time)if not Disney+?
The speculation will mount that The New Mutants will head to the streaming service? Could Pixar‘s Soul? With the June release date looking highly unlikely, where could it go? One date could be November with Raya and the Last Dragon heading to streaming service for Christmas?!
