The Seventh Seal Actor Max Von Sydow Sadly Dies Aged 90

He was the actor who played Chess with death, sadly death has won. Swedish actor Max Von Sydow has sadly died at the grand age of 90.

The actor of film and television, appearing in over 160 acting credits. Including some of the most iconic films in cinematic history…His most memorable film role was Knight Antonius Block in Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal (1957). One of 11 films he would make with the legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.

Other films include his English language debut The Greatest Story Ever Told which he played Jesus Christ. The Exorcist in the lead role of the iconic horror, Flash Gordon. David Lynch’s Dune, Hannah And Her Sisters. Awakenings, Minority Report, Shutter Island and more recently in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Game Of Thrones, winning an Emmy nomination.

He did receive two Oscar nominations in his long distinguished career. First in Pelle the Conqueror (1987) and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011).

Max was born as Carl Adolf von Sydow on 10 April 1929 in Lund, Sweden. His father, Carl Wilhelm von Sydow, was an at the University of Lund, his mother, Maria Margareta , was a schoolteacher. Max did have German ancestry largely thanks to his mother side.

Max had four sons, the two with his first wife Christina Inga Britta Olin. In 1997, he married Catherine Brelet in France and became a citizen of France five years later.

The news of his death came from his family, who announced “with a broken heart and infinite sadness” that the Swedish-born actor died on Sunday“.
