The Personal History Of David Copperfield UK Trailer Is A Satirical Dickensian Tale

Pardon the expression Armando Iannucci loves been in the ‘Thick Of it’. He gave us an hilarious satirical The Death Of Stalin, now it’s Charles Dickens. To be precise, David Copperfield and now we have the First UK Trailer for The Personal History Of David Copperfield. A vivid characterizations to bring to life one of Dickens’ most cherished characters, a riotous tale with a modern spin.

The Scottish comedian/writer/director described his latest creation as ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street on Drugs’. I may not be a fan of period dramas, but I’m sold on this film from that description!

The film stars Dev Patel as our kind-hearted titular character. Set in Victorian England David is surrounded by kindess as well as wickedness, poverty and wealth. He goes on a quest to be a writer, the story of life his most seductive tale of them all.

Patel looks like he’s having a ball in this role. The whole film looks absurd as well as one with plenty of charm. Not forgetting a host of crazy strange characters too! Iannucci is a avid fan of all things Charles Dickens, and it might be 19th Century but the subject matter very resonant today’s woes…

From birth to infancy, from adolescence to adulthood, the good-hearted David Copperfield is surrounded by kindness, wickedness, poverty and wealth, as he meets an array of remarkable characters in Victorian England. As David sets out to be a writer, in his quest for family, friendship, romance and status, the story of his life is the most seductive tale of all.

The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Ben Whishaw, Paul Whitehouse and Gwendoline Christie.

The Personal Life Of David Copperfield, doesn’t have a exact UK Cinema Release date. Lionsgate UK are saying ‘Cinemas 2020’. If you can’t wait that long can see it at the BFI London Film Festival [details here].
