Wash Westmoreland‘s Earthquake Bird could easily be, the name for an new Studio Ghibli film…but it’s not. The Japanese set Noir Thriller sees Alicia Vikander creeps in 1980’s Japan. Netflix have released the film’s official Trailer who takes an fixation to spine-chilling levels.
Based on Susanna Jones award winning 2001 novel which is loosely based on the writer’s own personal experiences in the Land Of The Rising Sun. Vikander plays Lucy. An expat who gets involved with a handsome local man Teiji (Naoki Kobayashi), things take a drastic turn when Lily (Riley Keough) enters the affray.
The trailer may not uncover the reasons for the film’s unique title, we do learn of this is a love triangle with a little extra. This is an psychological thriller of the unsettling nature and Netflix are a library some truly unsettling. Sign us up!
A psychologically unsettling and atmospheric thriller set in 1989 Tokyo from director Wash Westmoreland (Colette, Still Alice), Earthquake Bird follows Lucy Fly (Alicia Vikander), an enigmatic expat haunted by a painful past, who enters into an intense relationship with Teiji (Naoki Kobayashi), a handsome local photographer. Lucy’s imperturbable exterior begins to crack when a naive newcomer, Lily Bridges (Riley Keough), becomes entangled in their lives and ends up missing — suspected dead.
The film also stars Kiki Sukezane, Yoshiko Sakuma, Kazuhiro Muroyama, Ken Yamamura, Crystal Kay, Akiko Iwase, and Jack Huston.
