When it comes to the environment, it’s ‘fake news’ according to Donald Trump. Many believe him even more don’t and in Todd Haynes Dark Waters, goes for Environmental justice.

One could say this film is coming at a relevant time, resonating whats happening worldwide. In the film’s first Trailer, we Mark Ruffalo take on big ‘evil cooperation’.

The film is inspired by New York Times article, “The Lawyer Who Became DuPont’s Worst Nightmare”. Ruffalo plays an determined attorney who is used to representing big corporate business and DuPoint especially. When he uncovers an dark secret, he risks his future, his family, his life if he exposes any truth.

The DuPont’s are no strangers to controversy, as they were in Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher. That one focused on John DuPont’s with Ruffalo as Mark Schultz whom DuPont killed.

If Haynes goes for approach similar to Spotlight or even Erin Brockovich we may have a fantastic film on the cards. This type of film has been done before and we know the outcome, here’s hoping Haynes give a different perspective. The trailer does give an effect outlook of the film, will it get a awards push?

Next to the fantastic cast, Todd Haynes is a big attraction here. A director more know for his arthouse/LGBTQ films, this looks his most commercial film to date.

The film is inspired by the shocking true story of a tenacious attorney (Ruffalo) who uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths, due to one of the world’s largest corporations. In the process, he risks everything – his future, his family, and his own life – to expose the truth.

The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Tim Robbins, Bill Camp, Victor Garber, Mare Winningham, William Jackson Harper, and Bill Pullman.

Dark Waters will be released in the UK and Ireland from January 2020. Exact date not confirmed yet, USA will be 22nd November.
