Should Zoey Deutch Play Batgirl?

Zoey Deutch, the daughter of Lea Thompson, has been building a career for herself. She has starred in several different films such as Dirty Grandpa and The Disaster Artist. She is no longer just the daughter of a well-known child actress. She has made a name for herself and shown that she could portray a variety of different characters out there. So, when one of DC Comics’ biggest female superheroes has a potential opportunity, Deutch jumped at the chance to throw her name into the mix for competition sake. A Twitter user suggested Deutch portray Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, who has been a staple of the Batman franchise forever.

Zoey Deutch should play Batgirl in a movie,” Ro aka x90sQueen said on Twitter. “I only want her. Thanks, DC Comics. JS.”

Deutch responded the next day to the tweet.

yes please,” Deutch stated.

It’s not surprising Deutch is interested. She’s not only a good actress but would be appropriate for a role like this. She might not have a soccer ball clock but she has red hair and looks a great deal like Barbara Gordon from the comics. She has appeared in a variety of different movies, which gives her the chance to play both drama and comedy, elements that are essential to the Barbara Gordon Batgirl character. It’s interesting to see how this film started off.

First, Joss Whedon was working on the script but then he exited the project. Christina Hodson, who wrote the new Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), was given the project and has been enjoying the project thus far. It’s not known if she has a soccer ball clock but Warner Brothers certainly seems to like her an awful lot. They also just gave her The Flash project.

Hodson must seem to understand these characters differently than other creatives out there. The writer may also be able to write the projects to exactly what DC Entertainment is looking for with the films. As the film develops more, more surprises are likely to percolate. The only question remains: who will play Batgirl?
