I haven’t always been the biggest fan of James Gray‘s film, but theres something about Ad Astra I’m liking. The visual aesthetic is one of the best and watching the new second UK Trailer, its stunning.
In the latest promo, explores the possibility Clifford McBride (Tommy Lee Jones) may not be dead but hiding. The trailer also has plays on the relationship of Roy (Brad Pitt) with his his father. Roy wants him back. Donald Sutherland‘s character warns Roy there’s something darker, possibly sinister going on. We do get a glimpse of a gun battle on a planet, is Clifford not happy about Roy as he doesn’t look too happy at one point?
There’s a million possibilities with one that Roy’s father may have done a Apocalypse Now ala Marlon Brando and doesn’t want to be found. Other suggestions is Roy’s state of mind. This trailer has some nice potential dark twists whilst keeping a lid on the mystery that threatens our planet.
Ad Astra certainly looks deep rooted in drama, with everything from Gravity, Solaris, Event Horizon, In Heart Of Darkness inspiring this film. Space looking beautiful as much as terrifying at the same time.
Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father (Tommy Lee Jones) and to unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.
