You don’t have to be a mastermind to realise that you have to cater for all age groups. For Netflix, Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France is where they have announced their second animation Netflix Original.
Earlier today the streaming giants announced Klaus was the first feature, now add The Willoughbys. From writer/director Kris Pearn (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2). Based on the acclaimed book by Newbery Award-winning author, Lois Lowry.
The voice cast is lead by Ricky Gervais (Cat), Maya Rudolph (Nanny), Will Forte (Tim), Martin Short (Father), Alessia Cara (Jane) and Jane Krakowski (Mother), Sean Cullen (The Barnabys). Gervais is also narration duties too.
When the four Willoughby children are abandoned by their selfish parents, they must learn how to adapt their old-fashioned values to the contemporary world in order to create a new and modern family.
Like Klaus, the first footage from the feature were shown, with Pearns describing his creation as “It’s Willy Wonka meets Citizen Kane meets Ronald McDonald,”. Certainly sounds won’t be a straight up conventional feature, possibly a little off kilter.
At Annecy, Netflix confirmed they have several other animation features in or soon to be in production. Malenga Mulendema’s Mama K‘s Team 4, Hitoshi Mogi’s Dino Girl Gauko and Elizabeth Ito’s City of Ghosts.
The Willoughbys is set for an Spring 2020 release exclusively on Netflix.Powered by Sidelines
