Anyone knows The Peoples Movies HQ is very close to Glasgow and the city’s airport. No one expected the airport to be a terrorist Target and 2007 it was. Mumbai 2008, the city’s iconic Taj Palace Hotel was attacked by Jihadist Terrorists and is the subject for Hotel Mumbai.
Dev Patel is no stranger to hotel related films or ones set in India. From Slumdog Millionaire to Best Exotic Marigold Hotel to the recent Lion. He’s made a solid filmography especially films of characters that gain an sense of empathy from the viewer. In Hotel Mumbai he plays that everyman who finds himself caught in a devastating life changing event.
The film is based of the 2009 Surviving Mumbai documentary, which showcases the attack from the view of the witnesses like Arjun (Patel). Also from a couple (Armie Hammer, Nazanin Bonaidi,) who are celebrating becoming new parents plus several other guests and staff.
After the film’s World Premiere at Toronto Film Festival, the film has received strong positive reviews. Like any true life event, will it keep the line of balance not to exploit the horrors. Hopefully a powerful drama…
