The Tolkien First Trailer Tells A Story About Journeys

Every story tells one of journeys and this Spring we will see the journey of one of Fellowship. Fox Searchlight has released the First Trailer for Tolkien, the biopic of the great JRR Tolkien, the man who brought the ‘Fellowship’… The Lord Of The Rings.

The film promises to follow the iconic fantasy writer’s formative days. How found friendship, his orphaned days at school, his growth of his artistic talents. All juxtaposed between little snippets of his famous trilogy books.

Nicholas Hoult plays our titular character and the film does seem to do a solid job of selling the film. It seems to go to town especially on the ‘Rings books with many references throughout. World War One changed him forever as did many other writers as we know inspiring his work greatly. Lilly Collins character as Edith Bratt his lifelong love plays a pivotal role to his ‘journey’ too.

Just hope the forced references don’t spoil this one and give John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, the biopic he truly deserves…

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.

Directed by Dome Karukoski from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, the film also stars Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi.

Tolkien will arrive in the UK and Irish Cinemas from 3rd May( 10th May in the USA).
