Lucas Hedges Is Julia Roberts ‘Beautiful Boy’ In Ben Is Back UK Trailer

Let’s be frank, Beautiful Boy was no easy watch.Next month we return to drug addiction when Ben Is Back arrives in UK and Irish Cinemas, today we get a look at the film’s UK Trailer.

Starring Lucas Hedges (Boy, Erased) as our titular character and Julia Roberts as Holly Ben’s Mother. A story which starts on Christmas Eve when Ben returns unexpectedly home. Like any mother she welcomes her son with open arms, however that love is tested to the maximum. As she attempts to keep her drug addicted son clean from temptation.

The film is directed by Peter Hedges who wrote the novel What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? (Johnny Depp, Very young Leonardo DiCaprio). According to the film notes a very personal film to Hedges who was affected to addiction at a young age.

The film is exploring the grip of addiction and the pain it inflicts on those who are near and dear, your family. There’s no hiding this will get compared to Beautiful Boy due to sharing the core subject. It’s a little unfair as both tackle similar struggles in different ways. Both do offer a heart wrenching look at the addiction and will pull at many of our heartstrings.

The film premiered at Toronto Film Festival last September leaving with some very positive reviews with big shouts at Hedges and Roberts performances especially. Check Out the Trailer…

Nineteen-year-old Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges) unexpectedly returns home to his family’s suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. Ben’s mother, Holly (Julia Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean.

Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother’s undying love for her son is tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe.

The film also stars Courtney Vance, Kathryn Newton with Ben Is Back arriving in the UK and Ireland from 15th March. If you happen to be in Glasgow, you can catch the film at the city’s film Festival. The film will play the Festival on 23rd and 24th February [buy Tickets].
