It’s nearly time for another Lars Von Trier film and next one will arrive in the shape of The House That Jack Built. The last time we got anything from the film was the UK Trailer away back in May just as the film was on the eve of its Cannes premiere. As we wait for one more UK Trailer, IFC Midnight has released the American Trailer and showcases everything we expect for a Lars Von Trier film!
Set in the 1970’s Matt Dillion plays our serial killer Jack who wants to make his victims a ‘work of art’. The film apparently follows his development into the ultimate Killer, seeing him take greater risks.
Love or hate him the controversy seems to polarise the Danish filmmaker be it in a positive or negative way. Whatever you think, the films still get distributed and arthouse cinemas do play them. Cannes film festival, many critics and cinephiles did walk out, but is that a surprise? Not really if anything will encourage people to check this one out. As expected, this won’t be comfortable or easy watch…
Lars von Trier’s upcoming drama follows the highly intelligent Jack (Matt Dillon) over a span of 12 years and introduces the murders that define Jack’s development as a serial killer. We experience the story from Jack’s point of view, while he postulates each murder is an artwork in itself. As the inevitable police intervention is drawing nearer, he is taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork. “The greatest cathedrals have sublime artwork hidden in the darkest of corners for only God to see… so does MURDER!”
The House That Jack Built will be released in the UK & Ireland from 14th December in cinemas and On-Demand. The U.S release will be a 28th November limited released with the R-Rated VOD release 14th December.
The film also stars Riley Keough, Bruno Ganz, Uma Thurman, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Jeremy Davies, Sofie Gråbøl and Yu Ji-Tae(Oldboy).
