Hustler. Dealer. Kingpin. Informant. With one month to go Sony Pictures Releasing have released one final UK Trailer for White Boy Rick.
Four years after his critically acclaimed Belfast based thriller ’71 (starring Jack O’Connell), Yann Demange returns for another period based drama. A True story of a 15 year old boy Rick Wershe Jr.(Richie Merritt) becomes a ‘gangster legend’ in 1980’s Detriot. One time FBI informant soon to be a Drug dealer, Matthew McConaughey plays Rick, senior who tries to save his boy. He, however, is no saint himself, most of all a failing dad.
The Trailer (or more likely TV Spot) only lasts one minute and reveals snippets of new footage and other characters. We see Rick Junior living his criminal life as his father struggles to get him on the right track. Sadly as some will know this film has no happy ending and the pair become victims of systemic corruption.
Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs, WHITE BOY RICK is based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.
The film also stars Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brian Tyree Henry, Rory Cochrane, RJ Cyler, Jonathan Majors, Eddie Marsan With Bruce Dern And Piper Laurie.
White Boy Rick will arrive in UK and Irish Cinemas from December 7th.
