Watch The UK Trailer For Joel Edgerton’s Boy Erased

If you enjoyed The Miseducation Of Cameron Post, you may just want to check out Boy Erased. The film is directed and stars Joel Edgerton, the story of Gay Conversion. A film hotly tipped for Oscar success, picking up fantastic reviews on its festival run as well as a must watch in many ‘Films To Watch in 2019’. Today Universal Pictures has released the UK Trailer, a trailer that will shatter your heart.

The film stars Lucas Hedges (Manchester By The Sea) as the son of a Baptist Pastor, Garrard Conley faces the ultimatum by his parents (Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman). Go to ‘Conversion Therapy’ to cure him of his homosexuality or face exile. The film is also based on the real-life memoirs of Garrard Conley, critics are calling the film ‘devasting’

Whilst Cameron Post faced the controversial Conversion Therapy (recently announced to be illegal in the UK) with a mixture of seriousness and a little humour, this one looks to be a lot more dramatic. I wonder how far the story will go, will Garrad be fully ‘converted’? Personally, I’m keeping my knowledge of the story to a minimum to fully appreciate the praise that Hedges is getting for his performance.

BOY ERASED tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.

The film also stars Troye Sivan, Xavier Dolan, Cherry Jones, Michael “Flea” Balzary, Joe Alwyn, Emily Hinkler, Jesse LaTourette, David Joseph Craig, Théodore Pellerin, Madelyn Cline, and Britton Sear co-star.

Boy Erased will arrive in the UK and Irish Cinemas from 8th February 2019 (The U.S release date is 2nd November 2018).
