The critically acclaimed The Miseducation Of Cameron Post is set to be released in the UK and Ireland next month and today we get a look at the film’s UK Trailer. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz as our titular character sent to ‘conversion’ school because she kissed a girl at her school prom.
The film is set in the early 1990’s Moretz plays a young girl sent to a ‘gay conversion camp’ who rebels against this system. Remember this is a different decade when attitudes were very conservative if you showed any attraction towards anyone of the same sex. It’s outrageous to think there were people who used religion who believed (many still do) if you’re not heterosexual you must have a disease. Thankfully society is moving on and a person sexuality is (and should) no longer be an issue.
The film has been gaining critical acclaim since its World premiere and for director Desiree Akhavan (who directed the highly underrated Appropriate Behaviour). The film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival and Scott J.Davis caught the film at Sundance London. He describes the film as ‘An honest, compassionate and important tale ‘…
Writer/director Akhavan and co-writer Cecilia Frugiuele sensitively adapt Emily Danforth’s acclaimed coming-of-age novel, which centres on Cameron Post (Moretz) who is sent to a gay conversion therapy centre after being caught with another girl on prom night. The facility is run by Dr. Lydia Marsh (Ehle) and her brother Reverend Rick (Gallagher Jr.), and aims to treat teens “struggling with same-sex attraction.” This unusual setting provides Cameron with an unlikely gay community, including the stoner amputee Jane Fonda (Lane) and her friend Adam (Goodluck). Together, this group of teenagers form an unlikely family to fight and survive.
The film also stars John Gallagher Jr., Sasha Lane, Forrest Goodluck and Jennifer Ehle.
The Miseducation Of Cameron Post is set to be released by Vertigo Releasing in the UK and Ireland from 7th September.
