This news will shock many, but it’s that old chestnut that your past will come back to bite you. If your James Gunn, you’ll wish you never done it as Disney fire the director from The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3.

Social media is a great tool when you respect it. Sadly Gunn hasn’t and because of offensive Tweets he made through Twitter has now cost him his job. The ‘Jokes’ were made several years ago like anything resurfaced. The offensive jokes were about paedophilia and rape which goes against his employers Walt Disney’s family values.

Walt Disney‘s chairman Alan Horn announced the news via statement…
The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,”

The ‘jokes’ were posted online between 2009 and 2012 and they resurfaced thanks to right-wing bloggers Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec. The pair didn’t like the tone of the filmmaker’s jokes and made Marvel and Disney aware of the jokes.

They were made before James Gunn made Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 1 which was released in 2014. The film became an unexpected hit for Marvel raking $771 million (£540m) at the box office worldwide.

Gunn just recently finished the first version of the script for The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3. The film is due to be released in 2020 and the filmmaker was due to appear at San Diego Comic-Con to promote. He was also a big player in Marvel’s current trend, we can assume that involvement will now be over too.

James Gunn hadn’t right away made any response until now where he commented via Twitter…
Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”
