If you ever thought cities like New York, and London are like predatory cities, that will swallow you up. In Mortal Engines, in a post-apocalyptic world, London is a Predator that wants to swallow your town.
Produced by none other than Peter Jackson with longtime collaborator Christian Rivers directing in his feature film debut. Based on Phillip Reeve books of a world destroyed by the sixty-minute war and survivor live in mobile cities. Those cities fight for the remaining resources.
Back in December, we got a taster of the Dystopian story of the film as London swallowed up a smaller city. It also introduced the fugitive Hester Shaw. Now we get a clearer look at the backstory setting up the basics. Hester and Tom joining forces to go against the film’s ‘baddie’ Thadeus played by Hugo Weaving.
This is not the easiest of stories to sell in a couple of minutes, so teasing us is the perfect tonic for this film. This looks epic but do we expect anything less from Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens? Check out the full second UK Trailer…
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
The film also stars Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide and Stephen Lang.
Mortal Engines will arrive in the UK, Irish and U.S Cinemas from December 14th.
