The first film festival of the year is Sundance and this year’s festival one memorable image was of a blood-soaked Nicolas Cage. five months later Universal Pictures has released the first Trailer for that film…Mandy.
We love the Cagemeister and we know a lot of what he stars in, isn’t great. Other times he gives us a fantastic film, for this one this just looks crazy! From the director of Beyond the Black Rainbow Panos Cosmatos, Cage stars alongside Andrea Riseborough. A couple living a peaceful life when a sadistic cult destroys that peace, cue the ‘Cage Rage’.
Pacific Northwest. 1983 AD. Outsiders Red Miller (Nicolas Cage) and Mandy Bloom (Andrea Riseborough) lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache), Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with fire.
Crazy and Nicolas Cage is a marriage made in heaven for many. A chance to see him unearth his bloody vengeance on sadistic cults gets my attention. The film received some fantastic reviews from Sundance marking a rare treat, a good Cage film! A Primal, Visceral journey that’s pure escapism, this has a potential future culture status. Visually this matches Cosmatos last film with lots of red sepia tones. This may even look like a heavy metal video with Cage riding a bike with an axe! Get ready to unleash your insanity!
The film was co-produced by Elijah Wood and is one of the final films scored by Jóhann Jóhannsson (Sicario, The Theory of Everything).
Mandy doesn’t have a confirmed UK and Irish release date, however over in the U.S you can catch this on 14th September.
