Have you heard about the one about Veronica Marrs meets Frasier? It’s called Like Father and today Netflix has released the film’s Trailer.
Kristen Bell stars as a workaholic woman who is dumped at the altar who decides to still go on her ‘honeymoon’ with her estranged father(Kelsey Grammer). They meet as virtual strangers, will they return as father and daughter?
The indie film marks the directorial debut for Laura Miller Rogen, the wife of Seth Rogen (onboard as a producer) who also stars in this dramedy. Some critics may be very vocal at the streaming giants over saturated ‘Netflix Originals’ Marvel shows, their Netflix Originals films seem to grow in strength.
If you enjoy the indie dramedies from the likes of Noah Baumbach, this one seems to share a similar tone. A heartfelt comedy that wants to make you laugh but also scrutinize life. I would call this an arthouse style comedy Baumbach is more infamous for, more like in the lines of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It’s great to also see Grammer in something solid rather than a generic straight to DVD mess. A death of a television show or franchise should mean curtains for the lead cast.
When a workaholic young executive (Kristen Bell) is left at the altar, she ends up on her Caribbean honeymoon cruise with the last person she ever expected: her estranged and equally workaholic father (Kelsey Grammer). The two depart as strangers, but over the course of a few adventures, a couple of umbrella-clad cocktails and a whole lot of soul-searching, they return with a renewed appreciation for family and life.
The film also stars Brittany Ross, Zach Appelman, Danielle Davenport, Lenny Jacobson, Wynter Kullman, and Brian McCarthy.
Like Father will be launching globally (including The UK and Ireland) on Netflix on 3 August 2018.
