Netflix has announced that Gillian Anderson is to offer Asa Butterfield ‘Sex Lessons’ in upcoming Netflix Originals dramedy Sex Education.
The X-Files star is set to play Hugo star/Ender’s Game star Butterfield mother in this charming coming-of-awkward-age dramedy, debuting globally on Netflix in 2019. The young actor is set to play socially awkward high school virgin whose mother, Jean, is a sex therapist. You can move the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle into place and put yourself in Otis shoes!
The show also marks Anderson’s first project since she left The X-Files and Amazon show American Gods.
Meet Otis Milburn – a socially awkward high school virgin who lives with his mother, a sex therapist. Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.
Sex Education will also star Emma Mackey as Maeve, Ncuti Gatwa as Otis’s best friend Eric, Connor Swindells as class bully Adam, and Kedar Williams-Stirling as head boy and all round heartthrob Jackson.
Sex Education is an eight part Netflix original series created and written by Laurie Nunn and directed by Ben Taylor (Catastrophe). The series is produced by UK based production company Eleven.
Filming for Sex Education is now underway in the U.K.
