First Cast Images For The Girl In The Spiders Web Starring Claire Foy

Sony Pictures Releasing has released a number of official cast images for the upcoming The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

Ever since David Fincher’s 2011 The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake, for the last 7 years we’ve waited for a follow-up sequel. Right up until this new film was officially confirmed, there’s been so much speculation if Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig would return with Fincher directing. Also if The Girl Who Played With Fire or The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest would be the next one (or combination).

In 2017 all gossip was laid to rest and it was neither of Steig Larsson‘s books, but one of his post-death books The Girl In The Spider’s Web. The 2015 book was written by David Lagercrantz, one of three books which include the series heroine Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

The images below are images from the actual film, but a photocall of the film’s leading cast and director. The main draw of these images is our proper first look at Claire as Lisbeth Salander. She is also joined by Sverrir Gudnason who plays Mikael Blomkvist, and Lakeith Stanfield who plays Alona Casales. Also joining them is Stephen Merchant and the film’s director Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe).

When The Crown star was named as the new Lisbeth (originally played by Noomi Rapace, then Rooney Mara), it raised a few eyebrows. Up until her recent film, Unsane the English actress has played many ‘upmarket’ characters leaving a doubt she could pull this one off. Thankfully she proved she could play that off-kilter characters in Steven Soderbergh’s film.

At this stage, we don’t know, how much of the book’s story will be adapted for the big screen. Alvarez has co-written the script with Jay Basu, Steven Knight has also had a credit in the script too.

The Girl In The Spider’s Web will be released in the UK and Ireland from 26th October (9th November in the U.S). The film also stars Sylvia Hoeks, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Vicky Krieps.
