This August a Teen revolution will take place when the youth take back the power in The Darkest Minds.
Twentieth Century Fox has today revealed your first look UK trailer, starring Amandla Stenberg the young girl whom Katniss Everdeen tried to save. Six years after The Hunger Games the young actress is back in a dystopian future. This time the adults fear her.
Adapted from Alexandra Bracken’s bestselling series of novels, as a group of teens uses their mysterious new powers to take back control of their Future.
When The Hunger Games was still hot in our memories, there was a new Young Adult (YA) film in our cinemas near enough every week. Many were big bucks at the box office, others were expected to succeed but disappeared off the face of the earth. Since then Netflix has appeared and how we view new films and some films finding themselves on the streaming channel (like this film in the USA).
This could easily be like a spin-off film for Stranger Things. Ironically the producers of the popular show are involved in this. Throw in a little X-Men, minus the superhero baggage, more teens with superpowers they use against those in powers. After everything that has happened politically, young people (all people in general)feel let down by those in power. Nice twist in a subgenre that needs a wake-up call.
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
The Darkest Minds is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, also stars Mandy Moore, Gwendoline Christie, Harris Dickinson, Skylan Brooks, Miya Cech and Patrick Gibson.
The Darkest Minds arrives in UK and Irish cinemas August 10th (Netflix in the USA, August 3rd).
