Lady MacBeth Leads The Nominations In 2017 British Independent Film Awards

Autumn is officially here and slowly marks the start of the Awards season as today, the British Independent Film Awards announced it’s 2017 nominations. William Oldroyd‘s Lady Macbeth leads the nominations at this year’s awards which were announced this morning by Maisie Williams and Hayley Squires.

The period Psycho-drama has raked itself 15 nominations with nods for Florence Pugh, Naomi Ackie and Cosmo Jarvis for their performances; Naomi is nominated twice, for Best Supporting Actress and Most Promising Newcomer.

The other big nominees include The Death of Stalin, I Am Not a Witch take 13 nominations apiece.God’s Own Country and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri each nominated 11 times

One big notice this year’s nominations is the number debut feature movies. Lady Macbeth, I Am Not a Witch and God’s Own Country 3 big with a staggering 39 nominations between them. It would be a shock if any of these movies don’t nominations in other upcoming Awards.

BIFA said, “This year’s nominations showcase the range and quality of British independent filmmaking. It’s a diverse and varied list, in terms of the teams making the films and also the kinds of stories being told. It is especially encouraging to see so much exciting work from so many new filmmakers; this points to a very bright future for British cinema and we’re proud to be at the heart of it, celebrating these exceptional films.”

This year The Variety Award will go to Gary Oldman, with the Richard Harris Award will be announced soon.

2017 British Independent Film Awards will be hosted this year by Mark Gatiss with the winners announced on 10th December. Here’s the full list of nominations…
