There Will Be Thread…Watch Phantom Thread First Trailer

In 2007 Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis struck it lucky in There Will Be Blood, a movie etched in cinematic folklore in many critics (and cinephiles hearts). 2017 We work together for one final time in Phantom Thread, oil is replaced by 1950’s couture. A renowned dressmaker whose life turned upside thanks to a young woman who becomes his muse.

Today Universal Pictures has shipped us the movies official first UK trailer. A trailer in the gorgeous visual style we expect from Paul Thomas Anderson, scored by his regular go to music man Johnny Greenwood aka Radiohead.A movie of obsession and self-doubt in the 1950’s London fashion scene.

This movie is been highlighted as Day-Lewis final ever movie before who takes his steps into ‘retirement’ which the actor announced in the summer. It was news that shocked many and if you’re going to go out in style what better collaborator to end with, PTA.

Set in the glamour of 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the centre of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. With his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson paints an illuminating portrait both of an artist on a creative journey, and the women who keep his world running. Phantom Thread is Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth movie and his second collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis.

The movie may not have a cast list of big names but add Day-Lewis and Thomas Anderson to any cast or crew, it still gets bums on seats in cinemas. We can expect this one to play a big part in the upcoming awards season, there will be thread!

Phantom Thread is set to ‘sow’ our cinematic threads from the 2nd February 2018 (25th December in the U.S).
