Atomic Blonde showcased the girls are as effective and violent as the boys, 2018 the trend looks to continue. Already we know about Proud Mary, now Red Sparrow showcases Jennifer Lawrence as the latest inductee to the badass Spy hall of fame. The movies see the former Hunger Games star reunite with her director Francis Lawrence as Russian Ballerina turned assassin. Becoming a master of using her body to the limit, manipulating and seducing her targets.
Ahead of next year’s release 20th Century Fox Pictures has released the first UK trailer, which shows been a Ballerina has its benefits in other areas!
A bust time for Lawrence and a perfect time to launch the movies first trailer, on the even of her next movie Mother! Ironically this movie was originally meant to have been directed by Darren Aronofsky, however, in movieland things can change drastically for no particular reason. This trailer doesn’t spoil anything revealing only that Dominika (Lawrence) is a master of disguise and went through a brutal training plan.
The Atomic Blonde vibe is obvious, it won’t be one that will pull on originality. But one that will be tested on how they deliver the already seen thriller tropes. We understand this may push the 18 rating but it may not be a movie that will go all out John Wick body count. It’s probably the closest you’ll get to a Black Widow origins story for now.
Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is drafted against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress in the Russian security service. Dominika learns to use her body as a weapon but struggles to maintain her sense of self during the dehumanizing training process. Finding her power in an unfair system, she emerges as one of the program’s strongest assets. Her first target is Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton), a CIA officer who handles the agency’s most sensitive infiltration of Russian intelligence. The two young operatives fall into a spiral of attraction and deception, which threatens their careers, allegiances and the security of both countries. Based on the book by former CIA officer Jason Matthews, “Red Sparrow” reunites Jennifer Lawrence with her “Hunger Games” director, Francis Lawrence with Charlotte Rampling, Jeremy Irons, and Mary Louise Parker rounding out the cast.
