Shinsuke Nakamura VS Jinder Mahal At WWE Summerslam

This past week on Smackdown Live! one of WWE Summerslam’s main event matches was confirmed. In the main event of Smackdown Live! Shinsuke Nakamura defeated John Cena, thus becoming the number one contender for the WWE Championship.

Ultimately this means that Shinsuke Nakamura shall face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship on August 20th at WWE Summerslam.

Here are some details to briefly note, in order to clarify the build and plan to the WWE Championship bout at WWE Summerslam.

The Finish To The Match Was Altered

As noted by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer the change to the main event on Smackdown Live! was changed. Initially it is believed that Baron Corbin was meant to cost Cena the match, as he was planned to attack Nakamura. However it was noted that those plans were changed, possibly at the last minute.

Prior to the show, many were under the impression that a Triple Threat Match was due to be the planned WWE Championship match at WWE Summerslam. But reports have surfaced that Nakamura was planned to win the bout, regardless of the planned finish.

Overall Nakamura was always going to win the match and face Jinder Mahal at WWE Summerslam.

Baron Corbin VS John Cena At WWE Summerslam?

After the match in an exclusive segment only on the WWE Network, Baron Corbin blindsided John Cena. However Cena would overcome the attack, proceeding to put Corbin through the announce table, as the show closed.

This segment was not aired on TV but was shown on the WWE Network, as noted by Dave Meltzer.

This can now lead to the possibility of Corbin facing Cena at Summerslam, which would benefit the current Money In The Bank holder. Additionally one would hope Corbin defeats Cena, as it would warrant the beginning of a strong run for Corbin.
