Every year quickly passes by and every year we say ‘one day’ we’ll head to San Diego Comic Con and when you have trailers like Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One you can see why we’re eager. Over the weekend Spielberg presented the trailer for his upcoming science fiction thriller, a trailer that teases a who decade of fun as we go ‘back to the future’  to the 1980’s, insert coin to continue…

Tye Sheridan plays our movies protagonist Wade who wishes he was in the 1980s the decade of his heroes and with Spielberg been one of the filmmakers who moulded the era. When Wade enters VR game Oasis it does have a Tron-esque feel to it, if anything it’s as if Tron built a Blade Runner style city. Even Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant, horror icon Freddy Krueger make appearances, the list is endless and full of little ‘easter eggs’ of the decade and even 1990’s too.The movie is based on a popular Ernest Cline book, Spielberg looks to have added plenty of little touches to make the story look very original whilst be honest to true to the book’s source.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and T.J. Miller, with Simon Pegg, Mark Rylance with the movie slated for a 30th March 2018 UK, Irish and American Cinema release.
