Netflix may not be the flavour of the month at Cannes Film Festival but the streaming giants expand every week with great intensity. They are constantly delivering a wide range of shows and movies and today we get a look at Jason Bateman‘s Ozark.
The Arrested Development star will be known by many for his comedic ‘talents’ and later in the Summer, he will get a chance to show off his dramatic Chops. Last time Bateman got that chance he delivered the goods in Joel Edgerton’s underrated thriller The Gift. Now he’s got another chance this time to deliver a stone-cold calculated financial advisor who launders money for a big Mexican drug cartel. Check out the trailer…
Money may make the world go round for some people for Marty Byrde it may be all fun and games, but what he has is dirty money. The upcoming’Netflix Originals‘ Show explores capitalism, family dynamics and survival through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans.
In Ozark, The Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah (Bateman and Laura Linney), are, for all intents and purposes, an ordinary family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of Marty, a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks.
As well as starring in Bateman takes up the role as the show’s executive producer along with directing some episodes.Something has done for Netflix’s other show Arrested Development and his own feature film debut Bad Words in 2015, following that up with Family Fang. This looks a very gritty potentially violent show especially with whose money he’s ‘dealing’ with, how he spends it. Hopefully, with the simple premise, we will get a great show (coming in 10 1hour episodes) and performances and deliver another warning for Television and cinema, it’s time to open your eyes, smell the coffee.
Ozark is set for a global release exclusively on Netflix including UK& Ireland from 21st July, co-starring Esai Morales, Julia Garner, Marc Menchaca, Jason Butler Harner and Harris Yulin.
