With Jurassic World, you know what you’re getting, even his indie breakout hit Safety Not Guaranteed we sort knew the score too. But for Colin Trevorrow’s follow up movie Book Of Henry, it’s a little harder to figure out but not in a negative way. Today Universal Pictures have sent us the UK trailer, a movie grounded in nostalgia for 1980’s and the director’s quirky indie roots. One rooted in mystery and potentially a dark secret, watch the new trailer now…
Trevorrow is on the up up up with another big gig in a certain small space opera franchise called Star Wars Episode IX. This shows you how highly regarded this filmmaker is and with so many indie filmmakers going from small to big blockbusters, having a break to direct something smaller scale might deliver a better outcome.
This is one movie you can’t really judge the book by it’s cover. Book Of Henry is a movie title shouts out ‘gifted child’ or some kids based 80’s drama. As you watch, the story is a lot-lot darker that when the Carpenter’s mum discovers a dangerous secret about the neighbour’s daughter, we get a Spielbergian version of Rear Window?
Sometimes things are not always what they seem, especially in the small suburban town where the Carpenter family lives. Single suburban mother Susan Carpenter (Naomi Watts) works as a waitress at a diner, alongside feisty family friend Sheila (Sarah Silverman). Her younger son Peter (Jacob Tremblay) is a playful 8-year-old. Taking care of everyone and everything in his own unique way is Susan’s older son Henry (Jaeden Lieberher), age 11. Protector to his adoring younger brother and tireless supporter of his often self-doubting mother – and, through investments, of the family as a whole – Henry blazes through the days like a comet.
Susan discovers that the family next door, which includes Henry’s kind classmate Christina (Maddie Ziegler), has a dangerous secret – and that Henry has devised a surprising plan to help. As his brainstormed rescue plan for Christina takes shape in thrilling ways, Susan finds herself at the centre of it.
Book Of Henry is set for a 23rd June UK &Irish cinema release (The USA 16th June). The movie also stars Dean Norris, Sarah Silverman, and Maddie Ziegler.
